Resources are available online to help guide residents this hurricane season, including short instructional videos outlining the supplies to have on hand, how to decide whether to go to a public shelter and what to expect if you do, and how to stay safe after the storm has passed.
Officials reported that Lee County produced the videos to assist community members who typically attend in-person Hurricane Seminars offered throughout cities and unincorporated Lee County.
The videos enable residents to do their own virtual seminars. The resources online offer the same valuable information presented in a seminar, but are available to view on your schedule and share with family and friends. Also available online: a digital version of 2021 All Hazards Guide with interactive links to useful Websites, agencies and resources.
“Response and recovery involves the entire community and is everyone’s responsibility,” Sandra Tapfumaneyi, interim public safety director for Lee County Emergency Management, said. “At Lee County Public Safety we ask that you and your family do your part by creating a ‘Culture of Preparedness’ at home. Share this information with your friends and neighbors.”
Videos are available at www.leegov.com/hurricane and include:
– Introduction to Hurricane Season
– Making a Plan
– Before the Storm
– Preparing Your Pets
– Emergency Shelters
– After the Storm/Recovery
– Generator Safety
– Flood Zones
Videos include a “Hurricane Ready” quiz at each conclusion. They serve to test viewers’ knowledge and create a more interactive experience.
The video series recently received recognition from the from the governor’s Hurricane Conference. It awarded Lee County the 2021 Public Education/Public Information Award for educating citizens and visitors about hurricane preparedness.
The All Hazards Guide offers the same useful information as the videos do in a concise text form. It also has evacuation maps and information on hazards, such as wildfires and lightning.
Printed editions of the guide will soon be available at most Lee County Library System branches, as well as Lee County Parks & Recreation facilities. Packs of 25 guides or boxes of 225 will be available soon at the Emergency Operations Center, at 2675 Ortiz Ave., Fort Myers. Contact 239-533-0622 or EMInfo@leegov.com in advance to request guides.
In addition, Lee County Emergency Management has two tools to help residents prepare for and be aware of hurricanes and other emergency situations — the LeePrepares app and the AlertLee system.
The LeePrepares app — available in Google Play and the App Store — assists individuals and families with preparing for and recovering from all types of disasters that may affect the community.
– GPS functionality for locating the user’s Evacuation Zone
– Real time information from the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on shelter openings, with mapping/directions and hurricane evacuations
– Current Emergency (EOC) Activation Level
– Recovery information on re-entry, curfews, points of distribution and coping with disasters
– Sign-up for AlertLee emergency notification system
– Frequently Asked Questions
– Links to Special Needs registration for those with special medical needs, and/or transportation needs during an evacuation
– Family Disaster Plan and Emergency Supply List
– American Sign Language Disaster Preparedness Videos
– Current local weather and hazardous weather outlooks
AlertLee is an emergency notification system that allows registered users to receive telephone, text and/or email alerts related to natural or man-made emergencies.
The AlertLee system will be used when an emergency arises that you should know about. Severe weather situations, missing persons, evacuation notices, boil water notices, fire or floods and active shooter situations are a few examples of the type of events that may warrant a notification.
To sign up, residents should go to www.AlertLee.com, select their municipality or unincorporated Lee County, and complete the registration steps.
The AlertLee system already includes published, listed landline telephones, but not cell phones or VOIP numbers. To be certain to receive alerts, it is important to register and update the information if it changes. The information will be used only for AlertLee notifications.
There is no charge to register or receive system alerts.
As scenes of parents protesting for schools to resume in-person instruction played out in some communities, a quieter, but no less ardent parent demand was building: Keep virtual learning going beyond the pandemic.
School district officials have heard these families, and many are responding in the affirmative.
One of them is Maryland’s Montgomery County public schools, where more than half of students remain in full-time remote classrooms after the district resumed limited in-person learning this spring. The school district was among the slowest to get back to in-person instruction.
“Some families have seen their kids grow in ways they hadn’t before,” said Montgomery County district administrator Kara Trenkamp, referring to online schooling during the pandemic.
In response, says Trenkamp, who is director of technology integration and learning management systems, the district plans to offer Montgomery Virtual, a full-time virtual learning program for students from pre-K to grade 12, beginning this fall.
As is the case in most districts, Montgomery County’s fall plans for virtual learning opportunities are still in flux.
But Education Week caught up with school leaders and other education experts around the country to get a sense of how virtual learning will increase in the near future, and what these changes mean for teachers considering a job in this space.
In Minnesota, the number of virtual school options is about to double.
Pre-pandemic, 38 virtual schools operated throughout the state. This year, the Minnesota education department has approved 14 additional applications—some to expand existing online K-12 programs but most to begin operating new ones. Another 27 applications for new K-12 online programs are currently under review, says Jeff Plaman, the department’s online and digital learning specialist.
Plans to expand virtual learning include existing and new programs
While it’s too early to gauge the extent of K-12 expansion in the wake of the pandemic, several indicators suggest rapid growth.
Nearly 70 percent of districts plan to offer a “much wider array” of remote options next year, according to a February survey by the EdWeek Research Center. Parent surveys also show strong interest in seeing remote learning extend beyond the current school year.
Arizona State University’s K-12 digital platform grew from a student enrollment of under 14,000 to over 53,000 during the pandemic, according to John Watson, founder of Evergreen Education Group, which runs the Digital Learning Collaborative, a national membership organization of school districts, non-profit organizations, and providers. And in recent months, he says he’s received at least one alert daily announcing that a district is starting its first online school.
The Denton Independent school district, which covers 186 square miles in North Texas, will launch its first virtual school in 2021-22.
“It’s something they [district officials] have been thinking about for quite a while,” said Caleb Leath, principal of Denton ISD’s Woodrow Wilson Elementary, who will next year take the helm of the district’s first online school, K-8 Virtual Academy.
“This year, we had so many people reaching out to us who said, ‘This type of learning is great for my child, is this something we’ll be able to continue in the future?’”
Families aren’t the only constituents who want to continue with online learning. Some teachers do, too. The Denton district is prioritizing internal teaching candidates for its K-8 Virtual Academy and expects to fill all 100 or so spots for its first year with existing teachers.
Montgomery County’s Trenkamp says the district will hire teachers for its new virtual program, but she isn’t sure yet what the hiring needs will be. The district plans to open its application process after assessing results of a community survey to gauge interest in the program.
Criteria and expectations for virtual teachers
Of the district administrators interviewed for this article, none say they plan to require virtual teachers to obtain specific certification or licensing requirements related to virtual learning. But they do expect their hires to be open to teaching remotely.
“We’re looking for teachers who have thrived and loved connecting with students through the technology platform, or teachers who are willing to grow in that area,” said Trenkamp.
Denton’s Leath echoes Trenkamp’s sentiment. “Those who really felt they connected well with students online will be able to continue to do that,” he said. “There’s a lot of positive buzz in the air. We’re trying something new.”
Some say that while the growing embrace of online programs is new, the concepts behind them aren’t.
“I sort of think it’s what we imagined 20 years ago—more personalized learning, more customization,” said Hiller Spires, associate dean of North Carolina State University’s College of Education.
Spires says that, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a lot of discussion within colleges of education regarding how to support teacher preparation during the digital revolution. “The changes just weren’t happening. They never came to fruition,” she said.
The pandemic forced schools to embrace virtual learning, at least temporarily. Now, with a year-plus experience and excitement among multiple stakeholders to see it continue, virtual learning may offer an intriguing option for K-12 teachers seeking to be part of an innovative period in education.
“The next school year,” said Watson, “is going to be really interesting.”

Is It Possible to Make the Most Out of Twitch?
Yes. It is possible to get a great deal out of Twitch. Here we’ll discuss how to grow your audience and monetize.
Show Your Personality
To attract repeat viewers, you need to be entertaining. How good you are at playing the game is not as important as drawing people to your cool personality and the social aspect of the stream. Remember to keep talking about whatever comes naturally; don’t bombard them with follower counts or milestone goals—they’re probably not interested.
Attract Viewers With a Great Stream Title and Thumbnail
Make your stream stand out with a descriptive title using interesting words, keep it honest and try avoiding clickbait. Use the best overlays since they appear on your thumbnail. Go for a simple look using high-quality graphics to communicate your brand.
Collaborate and Make Friends in Your Community
To bring out even more of your personality, consider collaborating with friends and streamers you have good chemistry with. People will be drawn to your content and keep coming back for more. By mingling with people in your community, those with similar interests will naturally be attracted to your stream.
Earning Money With Twitch
Ready to start earning from playing your favorite video games and/or hosting streams about your hobbies? Here are two ways to monetize your Twitch content:
Twitch Affiliate Program
To become an affiliate, you must first meet the criteria and have your channel accepted by the program. Twitch will notify you via your dashboard and also send you an email to begin the process.
From your screen, you’ll be able to see your achievements progression, which is updated every time you take a step closer to fulfilling the requirements.
So how can you make money?
· By turning followers into subscribers of your channel, you’ll receive money from their Twitch Prime/ Amazon Prime subscription, which is free for them but equivalent to $4.99.
· By enabling virtual coins “Bits,” viewers can support your channel by buying and “cheering.” You will receive a share of the revenue when a viewer cheers with Bits.
· When viewers purchase any of the games or related items you advertise during your streams. You’ll earn a 5% share of the profit made from any purchases that originated from the ads shown on your channel.
Twitch Partner Program
To join the partner program, you’ll need to apply for the program, assuming you meet the requirements. A partner is considered high level. You’ll earn more as a partner than an affiliate.
By including ads in your streams, you’ll earn a percentage of the profits generated from the ads shown during your live streams; so a huge potential here to make lots of money!
How Do You Make a Twitch Panel?
A panel is technically an image. For one way to create an image to add to a Twitch panel, do the following:
1. Access your channel and scroll down to and select “Edit Panel.”
2. To add a panel, click on the plus sign, then “Add text or image panel.”
3. Select “Add Image.”
· You can use free paint software to create an image to fit the shape of your panel.
· The resolution size of the panels is 320px wide, which isn’t enough for a sharp finish so consider doubling the pixels of your design.
4. Visit a free, royalty-free image site to choose a background image.
5. Copy and paste the image into your paint software.
6. If necessary, resize it to fit your panel.
7. Add your text.
8. Once your design is complete, save it to your computer as a .PNG file.
9. To upload the image to your panel, select “Edit Panels” > “Add Image.”
10. Select the file to upload, then “Done.”

Here, we explore some of the major myths and realities of the global forex trading market. Considering the forex trading market has become one of the most profitable markets on a global scale, there is no wonder why many want to give it a shot. The forex trading market is extremely interesting for traders as it is rather flexible, everyone can join, and everyone can profit when the right trading strategies are used.
Like everything else, there are also some risks involved in the forex trading market. Here, you can learn more about these risks, explore different forex trading strategies, learn about crypto trading and gambling, and check out what one of the most prominent forex broker sites offers. Further, we dive into one of the most technologically advanced industries to discuss popular myths and truths every newcomer should be aware of.
What is Forex Trading?
The forex trading market is one of the biggest markets on a global scale since billions are traded every single day. The forex trading market is a foreign exchange and as expected, it revolves around exchanging currencies. The market is active twenty-four hours per day, five days per week. The forex trading market is an OTC or over-the-counter place so traders can trade any time and any place without any restrictions.
The global forex exchange market determines exchange rates for basically every currency out there while all other aspects are also determined including the selling and buying currencies prices. Since there is no need to visit any physical locations in order to trade currencies, one of the biggest pros of the forex trading market is its accessibility. This means that everyone out there in the world with a device connected to the internet can trade currencies on the forex trading market. Other advantages include:
- High liquidity and volume
- Low costs for transactions
- Great technology employed
- No trade commissions
- Wide selection of currency pairs
- Benefiting from leverage
Forex Trading Myths and Truths
One of the biggest myths related to the forex trading market is that everyone can make serious money fast. This is nothing but a myth and has nothing to do with the reality behind forex trading. To be a successful forex trader, you need to invest a lot of time besides investing resources to study the market. Just like other professionals who invest years into studying their respective fields, and are still finding success in today’s market, successful forex traders do the same to make profits from forex trading.
Another major misconception and myth regarding the forex trading market is that forex trading is super easy. While everyone can trade currencies, not everyone can do it successfully. In fact, making big profits from forex trading is rather challenging especially when it comes to making profits in the long run. Once again, to be a successful forex trader, newbies have to dedicate a lot of hours and effort into developing and practicing forex trading strategies.
Newbies to the forex trading market also tend to believe that you require a lot of money to benefit from forex trading. However, this is just a myth even though this was the case back in the day when forex trading was not as accessible as today. Today, everyone with a modern device and internet connectivity can start forex trading even with a small budget.
Another common misconception regarding forex trading is that successful forex traders have finance or economics degrees. This is not true as some of the most successful forex traders do not have PhDs in finance or economics. Many also believe that the forex trading market is a scam and this cannot be further from the truth. The forex trading market is the biggest market by volume and fluctuations that occur are just the way things work not only in forex trading but in other high-volume markets.
In preparation for Labor Day, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said over 665 employers will be offering 52,000 jobs at its online job fair this Saturday.
During a briefing on Friday, DOLE’s Information and Publication Service Director IV Rolly M. Francia said, “Umaabot na siya ng (It has reached already) 52,461 vacancies involving about 665 employers, 613 of which are local employers and 52 are overseas based,” of the jobs that will be available at the job fair.
Based on data provided to reporters by the DOLE, the openings consist of 44,724 local jobs and 7,737 openings overseas. The top five participating industries are Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), manufacturing, government, textile, and construction.
Other than the job fair, the DOLE will also hold a “symbolic” vaccination of workers under the A4 category of the government’s COVID-19 vaccination program, but details on this have yet to be finalized. Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III said earlier this week 5,000 workers will benefit from this.
Part of the Labor Day program is a signing ceremony of the DoLE, the Department of Interior and Local Government, and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on the deployment of contact tracers under DOLE’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD).
In an earlier press statement, DOLE said those who want to take part of the virtual job fair may access the following links:

Lots of jobs are open in Yakima County and Washington State but companies say they can’t find workers says Jon Smith President of the Yakima Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management and Executive Director of the Yakima County Development Association. He says from fast food to the hospitality and manufacturing industry companies can’t find the people they need to do the work. So what’s the problem? Smith says many people are still concerned about the coronavirus. Others are busy with childcare or managing remote learning. But he says increased unemployment benefits also played a role in why people aren’t applying for jobs. In a normal year to continue to receive unemployment benefits people were required to look for work and document job searches. But that requirement was suspended in March of last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many companies are hoping the job search requirement is reinstated in the near future so businesses can see more potential workers.
Under the current pandemic the number of days a job is posted before it’s filled has increased by about 25% in Yakima when compared to the time before the pandemic. However Despite all the news about jobs going unfilled, lots of jobs are open and officials say now is a great time to look and find a job. If you are looking for a job
Rep. Dan Newhouse will host his 2021 Job Fair for those living in the 4th Congressional District. The event is free is set for May 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick, Washington.

Barclays (BARC.L) and BNP Paribas (BNPP.PA) reported bumper first-quarter profits on Friday, as an equities trading boom offset a slump in demand for fixed income products, showing the value of having a broad-based banking business.
The topsy-turvy trading results for two of Europe’s biggest remaining investment banks highlighted how volatile markets amid the global pandemic caused seesawing demand for different asset classes.
Barclays’ January-March profit more than doubled to 2.4 billion pounds from 923 million pounds a year ago, while its French rival said net profit rose 37.9% to 1.77 billion euros($2.14 billion), both beating analyst forecasts.
BNP Paribas shares fell 1%, while Barclays shares fell 5% as analysts noted its rising costs, which the bank said was partly due to paying traders more for their strong performance.
Both Barclays and BNP benefited from lower than expected charges for bad loans, as government support measures in their domestic economies helped to defer the economic pain from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Barclays took an impairment charge of just 55 million pounds compared with 2.1 billion pounds in the same period a year ago, while BNP Paribas said its similar measure fell 37% to 896 million euros.
European banks have generally been more cautious on provisioning for bad loans than U.S. peers such as JPMorgan, which earlier this month released more than $5 billion. read more
The bumper equities performances from the two banks partly made up for thin returns from fixed income, currencies and commodities (FICC), where client demand slumped.
Barclays reported a 35% decline in FICC income, while at BNP Paribas it fell 16% as interest rate and foreign exchange-related products in particular fell out of favour.
“We would have liked to do better than we did on FICC, we take a prudent approach to risk,” Barclays CEO Jes Staley told reporters.
Rival banks which have already published first-quarter earnings seemed to dodge the fixed income decline, with Deutsche Bank’s (DBKGn.DE) fixed-income and currency sales revenue increasing 34% while Goldman Sachs (GS.N) reported a 31% rise in such trading.
For Barclays and BNP Paribas, the equities trading boom coincided with a flood of corporate listings in Europe. The turnaround in equities was timely for BNP Paribas in particular, after earnings in the first quarter a year ago were wiped out by losses related to dividend-linked derivatives as European companies suspended payouts.
The listing bonanza bolstered Barclays’ banking advisory business within its investment bank, as income rose 35% to 859 million pounds from fees for advising on equity fundraisings.
The generally strong performance in the past few years from Barclays’ investment bank has vindicated Staley’s backing of the business, during a period when activist shareholder Ed Bramson urged him to cut it back.

When recent or soon-to-be college graduates begin to seek employment, many inevitably turn to job-search and networking platforms on the internet.
The platforms include some that are college-based – such as Handshake, Symplicity GradLeaders and 12twenty – as well as networking platforms like LinkedIn and PeopleGrove. With COVID-19 having moved job searches more and more into the virtual realm, these platforms are playing an increasingly crucial role for college graduates’ quest for employment.
From my vantage point as a veteran college-based career services counsellor, I have also observed that many students and recent college graduates don’t make the most of what these platforms have to offer.
With that in mind – and in light of reports of bleak employment prospects for new college graduates – here are six tips for recent or soon-to-be college graduates who hope to make the most of their virtual job searches.
1. Use multiple platforms
At the same time, I recommend that college students set up profiles with one or more of the “big board” employment job posting sites, such as Indeed, CareerBuilder, SimplyHired, ZipRecruiter or Glassdoor. Among other things, these sites allow job seekers to create job search agents that push email notifications whenever new jobs that match search criteria are posted.
2. Apply frequently
Students who are new to the job search may not be applying for enough positions. I’ve recently worked with several students who have become discouraged when they applied to a few jobs and didn’t get the response they wanted.
While the number of positions a college job seeker should apply to will vary by industry, I suggest that an applicant should apply to at least two or three positions a day.
The reason I say this is because employment experts, such as Biron Clark, founder of CareerSidekick.com, estimate that only 2%-3% of employment applications result in an interview. For that reason alone, job seekers have to step up their search and networking efforts in order to increase their odds.
3. Set small daily goals
Real and perceived economic challenges created by the pandemic have led to a great deal of anxiety for job seekers. Studies have shown that extended periods of unemployment – and the risk of unemployment and underemployment – can be distressing.
Many college students with whom I have worked have expressed feelings of anxiety and being overwhelmed about their employment prospects. Some have even stopped searching for a job altogether.
To guard against giving up, I recommend that college students and recent graduates focus on small steps and daily goals. In addition to applying to a few positions a day, these goals can include conducting research regarding possible careers or networking with at least one person daily.
4. Track your progress
Create a spreadsheet to keep track of your job applications.
I believe a spreadsheet can be a motivational tool to ensure daily job hunt activity. I’ve even created a sample spreadsheet that I share with the students and alumni with whom I work. The columns on my sample spreadsheet include categories such as “Date of Application,” “Date of Screening Interview,” “Thank You Note Sent?” and “Salary Offer.”
A more sophisticated spreadsheet might include columns for when the time comes to choose between offers, such as length of commute or average rent in the city where the job is located.
5. Tap into alumni networks
Surveys indicate that up to 80% of people secure employment opportunities through networking and personal connections. For that reason, connections with alumni and others with ties to a particular school can be the key to a successful job search.
Many colleges and universities have programmes to help students and alumni make connections. Some of these are closed networks exclusively for current students and verified alumni, often through service providers such as PeopleGrove and Graduway. Others are through LinkedIn, including specific university-affiliated LinkedIn groups and the popular LinkedIn Alumni Tool. This tool allows job seekers to research and connect with alumni from their alma mater based on search criteria that include geographic location, current employer, job function and industry, academic major and skills.
While networking strategies can feel like a lot of work, they are proven. Sometimes the progress is incremental. For instance, networking can lead to informational interviews, which are opportunities for job seekers to get insights from someone already working in a field or at a company of interest.
I have seen the power of networking and these informational interviews firsthand. A 2020 graduate from the school where I work landed a position as an area manager with a major logistics company in Orlando after we connected him with an alum who works for the same organization. The alum offered him an informational interview and made an internal employee referral. A formal job interview and, ultimately, a job offer soon followed.
6. College graduates should take advantage of career services
As a career services professional, I would be remiss if I failed to point out that almost every college and university has some sort of career centre to help students find jobs. The vast majority offer services to alumni for life for free or for a small fee.
Evidence shows that visits to these centres are worthwhile. According to a 2016 Gallup poll, college graduates who use their college career centre are more likely to obtain full-time employment – 67%, compared with 59% for graduates who did not visit career services.
With the current ongoing situation, a lot of us have some free hours on our hands every day. Since we don’t have to go out, these hours can be utilized to earn some extra money while staying home.
